Local Atlanta Non-Profit Helps Others During COVID-19
Jul 6, 2020

Many businesses, organizations, and individuals across Atlanta have been negatively impacted during the Coronavirus pandemic. As businesses close, many families may face challenges when it comes to food and other basic needs. However, some local non-profit organizations are making a difference to improve the lives of those in need. Recently featured on CBS, Second Helpings Atlanta is giving back to the community by providing food to those in need and allowing businesses to keep their staff employed through partnership opportunities. The personal injury attorneys at Warshauer Woodward Atkins are proud to support and contribute to Second Helpings Atlanta.

How Second Helpings Atlanta is Giving Back During COVID-19

Every day, Second Helpings facilitates the donation of thousands of pounds of food to organizations that help feed the community. To do this, the non-profit takes surplus food from grocery stores and restaurants, including Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Target, and donates it to organizations that feeds those in need. Some organizations that Second Helpings has partnered with include the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women & Children, North Fulton Community Charities, and the Emory Campus Kitchen. In addition to helping feed the community, Second Helpings Atlanta reduces food waste by putting food that would be thrown away to a good purpose.

Businesses are partnering with Second Helpings Atlanta to keep their workers employed by paying employees to aid the non-profit’s operations. Instead of laying off some of their workers during the Coronavirus pandemic, Goldberg’s Deli is keeping some of their restaurant managers employed by paying them to deliver food with Second Helpings. These drivers help deliver perishable food, including produce, dairy, and protein, to organizations that feed hungry families across Atlanta.
