I don’t think any of them can be any better than the training they receive. Training as lawyers comes in two ways – formal education in law school or participation in a law review. In my case, I was fortunate to be trained by the three senior partners at the first three law firms where I worked before founding this law firm. The first partner, Jack R, was exceptionally brilliant, emphasizing the importance of acting like a good lawyer and earning respect in the community. The second, David Kitchens, instilled the principle of continuous improvement, urging that no matter how many times a project is done, it should be done better the next time. The last, and perhaps the most influential, was Frank Burge, a prominent figure in the trial bar. Frank emphasized the fearlessness of going to trial and never backing down, even for a fight over $1,000, if it means standing up for what’s right. These three mentors have profoundly shaped my approach to practicing law and the leadership I bring to this law firm – a commitment to walking the walk, striving to be the best lawyer, continuous improvement, and the courage to go to trial.
